Flustered and stressed is how I’d often start my day. I knew I had to change the way I started my morning, if I wanted to increase success in my business and personal life.
The importance of daily habits has been covered extensively in recent years, particularly the impact a morning ritual has on overall success. I used to be the one who would stay up late at night; struggle to wake up, then make a mad, frantic dash to work with only minutes to spare. Feeling flustered and disorganised I’d start my day. A few small changes to my morning routine have gone a long way.
Sleep is underrated. I’m weary of people who brag about only needing 4 hours a night. Nothing can compensate for a good night’s sleep to ensure you’re operating at your best. Arianna Huffington regularly speaks about this: “I have one piece of advice for you: sleep your way to the top,” she once said.
You Snooze You Lose
Hitting snooze multiple times used to be my thing. I’d then end up missing most of the morning. Try to wake up on the first alarm to make the most of the day.
Tap into Your Spirituality
A prayer; meditation; or carving out 15 mins before the busyness of the day takes over to review your goals and to set your intention for the day, will help develop laser focus and clear your mind.
Exercise is key. Not only will the endorphins help you sleep better they also will boost your overall mood. I’m not always able to make it to the gym, but this 7 minute work appis great if you’re pushed for time.
Avoid the News
Updating yourself on who had been shot and stabbed overnight first thing will only leave you depressed. Become more intentional about the energy you allow in your space. Feeling depressed is not a good way to start the day! Instead, proactively read something positive/uplifting each morning and then read the news later on in the day rather than first thing.
Make Your Bed
Making your bed each morning, “will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed,” a Navy Seal advised students at a commencement address. “Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that the little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right.” This is a big one and makes all the difference. Besides, who doesn’t like coming home to a nicely made bed?!
Eat Your Greens
I only full appreciated how the food I was consuming was adversely impacting my level of energy, concentration and overall mood after doing a 21 one day vegan cleanse. I had sooo much more energy. I’ve since radically changed my diet. I now start the day feeling energized from a green juice, packed with lush greens. My skin thanks me too!
